London Dinner

For a number of years the London Dinner was held in the Hughes Parry Hall at the University of London. More recently it has changed to the Savile Club and moved forward in the year to October. Presently, the event is held at The Travellers Club along Pall Mall in the centre of London and occurs near the beginning of November.

Members of the current Junior Common Room can attend the annual London Dinner (space permitting). Having current residents attend the dinner gives guests a first-hand impression of the Hall today and also allows them to network among Association members

Sports Day

The Annual Association Sports Day is held in Manchester on the Saturday at the start of the Easter holidays – it is held both to welcome back former students back to Hall, and to introduce current members of Hall to some of the Association membership.

The Hall sports teams (formed of JCR members) take on their Alumni counterparts in a series of events, normally consisting of rugby, football and rounders.

Dinner is served after the matches and is followed by a drinks reception. Many people then return to the Cellar Club providing an opportunity for current Anselmians to mix with those in the Alumni Association.

Annual Summer Reunion

The Association’s Annual Reunion is held at the Hall every summer, usually on the weekend after the end of the summer term.

The programme starts with afternoon tea in the quad, after which the Association holds its Annual General Meeting, which all members are most welcome to attend, and where the Association elects its Committee for the forthcoming year. Following the AGM, a short chapel service is held, before a sherry reception and formal dinner, always of the highest quality.

Then, over port and coffee, the assembled diners are entertained by an after dinner speaker from amongst the ranks of Old Anselmians, and in recent years speakers have included Barry Munslow, Professor of Politics from Liverpool, Air-Vice Marshall Peter Liddell and former Warden Geoffrey North.

The reunion is attended by Old Anselmians from every age group, from many those who left hall fifty plus years ago to those who have left hall the wbefore. Many Anselmians are accompanied back to Hall by their wives (and even occasionally their children) or their girlfriends, and all are made to feel welcome.
